HFMD Awareness

HFMD (Hand Foot Mouth Disease)

Last couple of weeks Aishah diserang HFMD ni. Little that we know the rashes on her feet was actually HFMD. Awal tu ingatkan nak kene demam campak, but as I googled for measles, the symptoms are different from HFMD.

Measles starts from the head down, while HFMD attacks specific area of the body.

HFMD usually attacks infants and children and rarely attacks an adult. Among the early signs on HFMD that I encounter with Aishah:

  • Fever.
  • Sore throat - we really thought another tooth is coming out.
  • Refuse to eat and drink milk.
  • Ulcer.
  • Blister.

Being a not so paranoid parent, we brought her to the usual poliklinik for a checkup and the doctor confirmed that it was HFMD.

We were provided with an anti viral syrup and medicated cream to be apply on the rashes and blisters. This disease might last from 3-7 days. Aishah was quarantined for a week to avoid spreading of the disease.

She is free from the disease now, but the scars still remain. Poor lil baby.
